The Michael Toy

Poems and Other Programmes

i am a good man

when i sit quietly
and say nothing
it is not because
i do not have any ideas
i have ideas
many of them not
exactly noble
after the
obvious and obligatory no
they never seem
to go away
nor do they linger
harmlessly
i will wonder what
would it be like
to sail past
the safety barrier
drive an inch closer to
the yellow stripe
than i should hoping
for a waft of
the savor of soaring
over the edge while
still driving
secure and centered
even now i play
this game of smell
but do not taste
look but
do not touch
maintaining a safe distance
from the scenes of deeds
dreamed but never done
