what if jesus

what if
i mean really
what if
what if jesus was so amazingly
shockingly, casually,
present yet provocative,
artful and revolutionary

what if being Christ-i-an
didn't make you
a brain dead tithing machine
pitied by the free
and ignored by living

what if hanging out with Jesus
was like bebop in the 40s
or punk in the 70s
tearing the sleeping world up
leaving an imprint on history

oh for a christ like that
never be out of style
offending all the right people
the right answer for everything
i would walk miles with that jesus

something inside me says
that this wish to wrap myself
in a fashionable safety
is one of the first things
that jesus would be sure to offend
a glance and you can't believe he's wearing
those weird glasses with the googly springy eyes
